About Us
In 1993-5 a mystery play cycle was put on at St. Andrew's church,
Girton involving many local people. Some of those taking part really
enjoyed the acting experience and wanted to carry on. Girton Players was
founded in August 1995 by Maxine Fay and Michele Le Bailly and the first
meeting was held in October of that year.
Our early meetings were play readings, with our first production in June
1996 of When We Are Married by JB Priestley. Although we have more
members now, we are still a small, friendly group, open to all. Several members have made their acting debut with
us. We also have good contacts with other local groups whose
members have acted with us and vice versa.
We have always tried to choose interesting scripts and we try to challenge ourselves
with our productions. Many of our
plays are comedies, with the occasional work of a more sober nature.
Although we do not have a separate section for younger members, we are
open to any age and young people have acted in several productions.
