Stage work shines in drama festival
Talented actors and actresses in a Cambridgeshire group came out top in an
annual drama festival. Girton Players won the 2001 Cambridge One-Act Drama
Festival at the Mumford Theatre and the best actor and best actress awards.
It was the first time in the 33-year history of the festival a Cambridgeshire
team has won all three major prizes.
Michael Husband was judged best actor and Maxine Fay won best actress.
The Girton production of a recent Caryl Churchill play, Heart's Desire,
received high praise from the judges.
Adjudicator Colin Dolley said: "The fiendishly difficult play could have
been a disaster in the wrong hands, but this team showed real commitment in
bringing it to success."
